Creating your Cat's First Aid Kit

Do you know what to do if your cat has an emergency? Do you have the necessary first aid supplies on hand for your cat? Are the supplies easily accessible?


When your cat is injured, and your heart is pumping it pays to have a First Aid Kit with supplies for your cat readily available. Your cat is depending on you!


The items to include in your cat's First Aid Kit are as follows.

  • Muzzle (Must be made for cats)

  • Emergency Contact Information

  • Gauze Squares

  • Roll Gauze

  • Elastic Cohesive Wrap (Vetrap)

  • Adhesive Tape

  • Bandage Scissors


  • Antimicrobial Ointment (Neosporin)

  • Grooming Clippers

  • Rubbing (Isopropyl) Alcohol

  • Disposable Gloves

  • Towel or Blanket

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Sterile Saline Eye Wash

  • Quick-Read Rectal Thermometer

  • Sterile Water Based Lubricant

  • Pet Nail Clippers

  • Styptic Powder

  • Pet Poison Hotline 1-888-426-4435

The First Aid Kit contents should be replaced after each use and checked yearly for expiration dates.


There is also a Pet First Aid App from the Red Cross that is downloadable to your phone.


Remember your cat is depending on you. It pays to be prepared so you can handle the emergency immediately and stabilize your cat for transport to the veterinarian if necessary.
